If you are looking for a purebred dog, then go to a breed specific rescue group. There is a huge difference in the cost of dog purchased from breeders and that from rescue centers.

Do not make any compromise with the quality of food as it will directly affect the health of the dog and increase the veterinary expenses. However, homemade food is another good option which will not only cut your expenses, but will also be hygienic and fresh. Ask your veterinarian about what to include in homemade food. You can also use carrots and apples as treats.

Buy good quality leash and collar. Buy at least two beds which can be easily washed when they become dirty or soiled. Buy three to four toys and give them one toy at one time. Keep replacing the toy, so that when they will get the toy after a month, the dog will feel that it is a new one.

Many CDs and DVDs offer tips for how to train your dog. With all this, there can still be incidences where you may have to spend money on your dog. So, it is best to be prepared for the worst case scenario.
