Important Facts About Frontline Spray

If you are the owner of a puppy, dog or kitten that is at least 9 weeks old, it is important to provide your pet with effective coverage against ticks and fleas which carry Lyme disease. These pests include brown dog ticks, lone star ticks, deer ticks and American dog ticks.

This spray provides highly effective, long lasting protection from ticks and fleas in an easy to apply spray. First, be sure to put on a pair of latex gloves to protect your own skin. Then ruffle the coat as you spray the legs, stomach, sides, shoulders, neck and back. Don't use this spray directly from the atomizer to apply to the animal's eyes or head area. Instead, spray into gloved hand and rub onto the hair in these two areas with hand. In general, the coat should be damp at least to thoroughly wet. Allow for one or two pumps for each pound of the animal's total body weight to be sure the proper amount of coverage.

Some pet owners worry that the pests have to bite their animal in order for the product to work. This is not true. Frontline Spray work just by the pest coming into contact with pet's coat. Another misconception is that the visual presence of more fleas after the application means it isn't working. The opposite is actually true. Frontline makes fleas excitable and drives them to the surface before they die. So it is not uncommon to actually see more active ticks on your pet after you have used the Frontline Spray.

There are no known side effects to using Frontline for dog or kitten but your pet may have some individual sensitivity at first. If it persists or becomes severe, you should not hesitate to contact your pet's vet. Frontline products such as Top Spot and Plus work by a method that is known as translocation. Your pet's natural oils allow the product to "wick" onto the strands of hair for the next 30 days or so. Translocation may take a full 24 hours to complete. Fleas will die within half that time or 12 hours after coming in contact with a pet that has been treated with Frontline Spray. It will take 48 hours for ticks to die.

If you see ticks on your dog after treating with Frontline spray - it often just means that eggs were already present before you made the first application to your pet. Depending on your location in the U.S., you may be required to provide your pet with protection like Frontline Spray all year long. In other areas, a monthly application will help to eliminate and control indoor fleas and eggs entirely. The good news is that Frontline Spray is simple to apply and has long lasting effectiveness for your pet. When you want to provide high quality protection, Frontline Spray gives you just the option needed.
