For successful beekeeping proper supplies is required. Beekeeping is very dangerous activity. The beekeeper can get injured. The injuries can be reduced by using the right beekeeping supplies. Some supplies are used to extract the honey and some are used to manage and maintain the colonies of bees.
Beekeeper should also have a smoker when they work. A smoker is a device which sends smoke by using various fuels. There are many types of fuel which can be used in the smoker. Many beekeeper use fuels like hessian, twine, burlap, pine needles, corrugated cardboard or rotten wood. They can also use fuels like pulped paper and compressed cotton. If there is smoke the bees will try to leave the hive suspecting a fire. The smoke also masks the alarm pheromones that are released by the colony's guard bees when they sense an intruder. Now since the colony is confused the beekeeper can work without triggering a defensive reaction.
Bees are more capable to find food on their own. Some beekeeper may feed bees with sugar syrup. This sugar syrup will help them to prevent starvation during bad times of the year it also stimulates the laying of eggs. The beekeeper will use feeder to feed the bees. There are different kinds of feeder to help the beekeeper. During winter Hive top, pail or division boards can be used to feed the bees and in summer when the bees are active an entrance feeder can be used.
One of the important aspects of beekeeping is to build a proper place where they can live. Artificial hives are used to house the bee colonies. A wax foundation is used to build a comb in a way that is convenient for the beekeepers to harvest. A thin sheet of wax is the foundation. It has a hexagonal base pattern embossed on both sides. This model helps the bees to easily construct its comb.
